About Washington Navy Yard

When the D.C. Navy Yard was instituted in 1799, it was the nation's largest shipbuilding facility. It played an important role in the development of the surrounding area throughout the 19th century.
Today, the Navy Yard in Southeast Washington, D.C. is most famously known as home to the Washington Nationals baseball team. The building of Nationals Stadium encouraged further growth and development around the area, including the addition of the U.S. Department of Transportation office as well as an abundance of shops, restaurants and retail options for visitors, employees and residents. As a result, the Navy Yard community feels young, vibrant, and fresh, making it a great place to call home.
The Navy Yard is one of Washington, D.C.'s sought-after, up-and-coming neighborhoods. It is less than a mile's walk to Capitol Hill and downtown D.C. and residents of the waterfront community enjoy outdoor recreation at Anacostia Park, and shopping and dining at neighboring Barracks Row and Eastern Market. In addition to existing stately row houses, new and different housing options have expanded, thanks to the stadium's existence.  There are now modern, high-rise condos, apartments and co-ops nearby, with all the modern amenities one would anticipate for the predominantly young, upper income, urban residents. Prices fluctuate, with a typical range from $570,000 to $739,000.
Transportation options are abundant to and from the Navy Yard. A nearby Green Line Metro Rail station takes riders to the Gallery Place-Chinatown station. There, transfers can be made to both the Yellow and Red Line trains, with access to other neighborhoods in Washington, D.C. as well as to suburban Maryland and Virginia. As is the case with most neighborhoods in Washington, D.C., several bus lines frequent the Navy Yard. For those driving, I-295 and I-395 also offer easy access.
