Lubbock, Texas is the county seat of Lubbock County, Texas, commonly called the South Plains. The city is known as the Hub of the plains due to it being the economic, education, and health care hub of the region and is located in the northwestern part of the state in the region known as the Llano Estacado. In the 2015 Census, The Lubbock metropolitan area had an estimated population of 311,154. The climate is dry with warm days and cool evenings. The cost of living in the Lubbock area is far below the national average. As a result of the low cost of living individuals benefit from a higher standard of living at a lower cost than almost anywhere else in the nation. The Lubbock area is the largest contiguous cotton growing region in the world producing 3.5 million acres of cotton annually. Lubbock is home to the state's first level one trauma center and the only one in the region. Lubbock has more doctors per capita than Dallas, Phoenix, Denver or Albuquerque. Lubbock boast three Universities; Texas Tech University, Lubbock Christian University, Wayland Baptist University, and South Plains College and four independent school districts; Lubbock ISD, Frenship ISD, Lubbock-Cooper ISD, and Roosevelt ISD. Lubbock is a warm, friendly and unassuming community. It is a great place to raise a family with many churches, outdoor recreation, sports events, music activities, shopping and dining.
