About Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek Fort Story

Williamsburg, Newport News, Hampton, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, and Virginia Beach are all considered part of the Hampton Roads area and is home to possibly the largest military concentration in the world.

Tucked in southeastern Virginia where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean, Hampton Roads is separated between the "Southside'' Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Smithfield, Suffolk and Virginia Beach; and the "Peninsula"; Gloucester, Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg, James City County and York County.
  
Spanning almost 4,000 acres in Virginia Beach, Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story is comprised of the former Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek and the Army Post, Fort Story. This base is most widely known for training our nation's Expeditionary Forces. In addition, it is home to 155 shore-based resident commands and 18 home ported ships. Fort Story employs approximately 18,000 military and civilian personnel making it the largest employer in Virginia Beach.
