About Joint Base Lewis McChord

The joint base merger took place in 2010; it's a training and mobilization center for all army services, the only one west of the Rocky Mountains. The base enjoys easy access to Seattle, Tacoma and Olympia.
 
The natural surroundings of this base are exceptional with a striking view of Mt. Ranier, the Cascades, Puget Sound and the Pacific, beauty is all around you in Lakewood.
 
In addition to all of the natural beauty, Lakewood has historic attractions such as Thomewood Castle, Fort Steliacoom Park and Lakewold Gardens. Residents enjoy a local farmers' market and have access to public transportation through the Washington State Ferry System and Intercity Transit.
