About Fort Benning

In almost two hundred years, Columbus has expanded into being one of the state's largest cities. It is close to other large cities in both Georgia and Alabama, and transportation is made easy! Columbus has its own airport, public transit system and vast highway system which will allow for access anywhere you need to go.

Columbus celebrates its unique heritage with museums commemorating different parts of the community. There is the Columbus Museum, National Civil War Naval Museum, and National Infantry Museum, just to name a few ways to celebrate Columbus' history. If you are looking for more relaxing attractions in the area, there are many walking trails in the area, such as the Chattahoochee RiverWalk, or if golf is more your style, there are seven golf courses to choose from!

Located in west Georgia along the Chattahoochee River our region has been blessed with mild weather and an abundance of natural resources. Just a few miles away in Warm Springs GA, visitors can tour the little white House of Franklin D. Roosevelt and picnic on Pine Mtn. in Roosevelt State Park.  Across the mountain you can relax on lovely white beaches at Robin Lake or play golf Callaway Gardens and 2 beautifully landscaped golf courses.
In May 2013 Columbus will open the longest "Urban Whitewater" course in the world, with 2.4 miles of class I through class IV rapids. The many expected visitors will discover numerous attractions including the Columbus Museum, the National Infantry Museum, the National Civil War Naval Museum, and the Coca Cola Space & Science Center.
Columbus State University is a rapidly growing member of the University of Georgia University System and offers many graduate and post graduate opportunities. Many of these courses are offered at the Fort Benning location. Troy State University and Chattahoochee Valley Community College also have campuses here provide more opportunities for full and part time students.
