It is also home to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), National Reconnaissance Office (NR0), National Counterterrorism Center (NCC) and Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
Housing is available on base in the Villages of Belvoir for soldiers, personnel and families relocating to the location, as well as the areas immediately outside of the base including Lorton, Fairfax Station, Springfield, Burke, Alexandria and Woodbridge. Fairfax County currently has numerous homes and home styles with an average sales price of $537,000. North of base, Alexandria has a mixture of neighborhoods from old to new with many home styles and price ranges. Just south of base, Prince William County offers homes with an average sales price around $334,000. There are also many options for rent throughout the area.
Families with school age children who are relocating into the area will find a school system that ranks among the best in the nation. Fairfax County Public Schools consistently score in the top 6% of all American high schools as measured by advanced placement or International Baccalaureate exams. The county is also home to Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, which U.S. News & World Report ranked as the best public high school in the nation. On base, students in kindergarten through sixth grade go to Fort Belvoir Elementary School, 7th and 8th graders attend Walt Whitman Middle School and 9th through 12th graders attend Mount Vernon High School.
Some of the top priorities of the base are quality of life, ease of transfer, and the environment. The Relocation Readiness Program assists families during the relocation process at Fort Belvoir. Northern Virginia also offers a multitude of public transportation options.
