Bryan is a twin city directly adjacent to College Station, Texas and approximately 100 miles Northwest of the Houston metropolitan area. Bryan Texas was founded in the mid-1860s as a retail center and a railroad shipping town to service the cattle and cotton business. In addition, Bryan has served as a hub area for oil and gas exploration, production, and transportation for over 100 years. Bryan continues a rich tradition of its historical Texas culture in combination new economic innovations such as a revitalized downtown that offers a major fiber optic trunk line to service down town technology-based businesses as well offering significant retail and dining venues. The largest employers in the Bryan community are rapidly growing public institutions of higher education. The primary higher education establishment in Bryan is Blinn College with approximately 12,000 students. The primary focus of Blinn College is academic preparation for transfer to degree programs at nearby Texas A&M University as well as providing Associates degrees in EMS, law enforcement, and nursing. Bryan also includes the Traditions Golf Course community and the Texas A&M University Health Science Center. The second largest employment base in Bryan is medical services. The primary medical care provider in Bryan is St. Joseph Regional Hospital. St Joseph's Regional Hospital provides a full portfolio of medical service from basic health care to advanced health care needs such as a Tier Two trauma center as well as heart surgery and orthopedic surgery care. In addition, the Physician's Center provides an extensive array of day surgery and out-patient medical options.
