Budget-Friendly Holiday Decorating Tips

Posted 6 years ago

There’s no place like home for the holidays and there’s nothing like feathering your nest with a festive touch to welcome friends and family. It’s easy to go overboard with spending, but here are a few ways you can add some sparkle and pop without breaking the bank.

Bring the Outdoors Indoors
Take some clippings from your yard, some sprigs of spruce, knotty twigs and branches and pinecones. All surfaces in your home are fair game!  Add greenery to your mantle, over your clock and as a table centerpiece (just make sure to keep away from open flames). Assemble a collection of pinecones in a festive bowl or basket. Paint twigs and small branches with a little hint of white paint to resemble snow and display in a tall vase.

Use What You have Around the House
Have you amassed a collection of small jewelry boxes? Wrap the boxes in silver and gold wrapping paper and make a dazzling display for your mantle. Add coordinating ribbon to take it to the next level. Who can resist a perfectly wrapped gift?

Edit your Décor
All decorations suffer from wear and tear over the years, it’s inevitable when you move accessories in and out of storage. It’s time to look at it and ask, “Is this really display worthy?”  If Santa is missing a boot or Frosty is missing a button, the boys are not display worthy. If you can’t fix it or refresh it, let it go.

Find Alternative Uses
Sometimes you can’t fit all those ornaments on the tree, display them somewhere else. Group metallic ball ornaments and display in glass vases or bowls. Use vases of varying heights to create visual interest.

Hit the Books
Chances are you might have some holiday books around the house. Why not replace your current coffee table books with The Night Before Christmas, The Polar Express and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas?

Happy hall-decking!
